    What is MATRICS learn?

MATRICS learn is a free debt advice training programme for advisers working for organisations with FCA authorisation in Scotland who want to give free, impartial, non-judgemental, and knowledgeable advice to clients.

The programme is designed to allow learners to progress their training in line with the levels or ‘types’ of advice in the Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Providers (SNSIAP) through an innovative and user-friendly structured learning plan.  Full MATRICS Learn Programme

Users follow a blended learning approach which promotes knowledge input via bite sized e-learning modules followed by discussion groups and workshops considering practical examples to deepen understanding and build confidence.

How do I access MATRICS learn?

It is vital that individuals and organisations offering financial services operate in the best interests of consumers and uphold the integrity of the financial services industry.  The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is responsible for authorising, supervising and taking action where needed to ensure this happens.

To register for an account in the MATRICS learn programme, unless you are exempt, you must have the correct authorisation from the FCA.  For more information or to register, please visit the FCA website.

Please note that local authorities in Scotland are exempt and do not need FCA authorisation.

We are currently running two learning pathways for trainees:

    1) Experienced pathway

    2) New adviser pathway

To be categorised as an experienced adviser you must meet specific criteria click here. Once your registration has been received, we will check for previous learning.  If your registration is approved as an experienced adviser, you will be able to pick and choose which training you would like to take part in.  If you are placed in the new adviser pathway, you will have to start training at the beginning of Level 1.

    How is MATRICS learn structured?

    Level 1 (New Debt Adviser)

To help new advisers understand what debt advice is, why clients need help and to learn some basic key terminology, options and systems.

    Level 2 (Triage work)

Understanding the 6 steps and other key interview skills to help an adviser do the initial fact finding. Aligned with SNSIAP type 1.

    Level 3 (Experienced Debt Adviser)
